Jonathan is a boy from what is commonly known as a ‘good home', from which, much is expected of him in terms of academic achievement and a successful career. But his punishment for having what others perceive as advantages - at the hands of fellow pupils at a new school in unfamiliar surroundings - sends him on a very different journey through life. He soon finds himself on the scrapheap of British society from which he never quite manages to break free, in his desperate attempts to create a life for himself. However, as that troubled life nears its end, miracles of a very different kind begin to occur.
