Subashni Govender is an ex-teacher, completing her teaching diploma at ‎the University of Durban, Westville. Being a single mother of colour ‎made her a determined and competitive person. While educating her two ‎young children, she herself continued studying and graduated with a ‎bachelor's degree, majoring in English and history. She has written ‎several poems, but Threads of Treason is her first full-length novel.‎
