A book of short narratives from the margins of society about the individuals who are often on the periphery due to their specific needs and the complexity of their diagnosis. The book should appeal to psychologists, social workers and other professionals who work with and alongside individuals with learning disabilities with complex needs, and their parents. The narratives are written from the perspective of a curious practitioner who at times finds himself alongside the children and young adults he is writing about. The narratives offer an insight into the internal world of those children and young adults, and explore the way individuals develop an identity in a social world alongside others. As individuals, we exist in a web of relationships that at times sustain us and at other times become a burden on our resources internally as well as externally. The aspiration is to find and enable ways of relating that provide relational interactions.

RajVinder is a Sikh, a psychologist and a therapist. He uses narratives alongside psychoanalytic ideas to make sense of the communication that individuals share with him. He brings his curiosity about people and, in particular, their internal world to bear in therapeutic relationships and supervision sessions. Language and the use of words is intriguing and highly motivational for him. He is particularly interested in how language comes to provide a shared frame of reference for a community. He has written practice papers and published articles for those who work with children and young people.
