Synopsis

Teenager, Aliya, is living in a war-torn city in the heart of the Middle East. Danger lurks around every corner as she runs home from school. Her worst fears are realised. Her home is reduced to rubble. Her family lies beneath. Rescue workers confirm the shocking truth, but her twin sisters are missing. She searches a nearby shelter in vain. Realising the ever-present threat of attack and kidnap, she is forced to flee. But she cannot travel as a girl. She disguises herself as a boy and sets out on her terrifying journey across the city, and from there, she must face the desert and the mountains, hoping to find freedom. She hides during the days and makes a run during the night; taking refuge amongst the rubble of a city, she no longer knows. She encounters Kamal, a boy, who runs with her until they are separated. In the desert, a thrilling tribeswoman rescues her from near death. Fate intertwines her and Kamal's path again, but Aliya wants to flee this burning forsaken land. She has cut all ties with her family, her homeland and her new acquaintances to escape. How will she fare against insurmountable odds? Find out in Odyssey.

A propos du livre

À propos de l'auteur

Maggie Edwards was born the fifth child of seven in a fourteenth-century Kent Cottage called Ranters. It was originally used by a group of religious dissenters and her mother, raising an eyebrow at her daughter's passionate tirade on injustice, noted the birthright. She left her convent school at sixteen, for art college to paint. Later, she returned to college for a teaching degree. Her experience with students in secondary and further education inspired her to write on the coming of age of young people from different backgrounds and cultures. She teaches ceramic sculpture part-time, and lives and works as an artist and a writer in Newhaven, Sussex. She has two children and two grandchildren and has written three YA novels.
