The Irish Civil War was contested as bitterly in Clare as in any other part of Ireland. DR JOE POWER is an award-winning historian of County Clare. His publications include: A History of Clare Abbey and Killone, (1987); The GAA in Clare Castle 1887-1987, (1987), for which he won the McNamee award; A History of Clare Castle and its Environs, (2004); and Clare and the Great War, (2015). He has written extensively on various aspects of County Clare history, which have been published in a range of local historical journals.
