In this heartbreaking short story set in India, two girls with very different lives are drawn into a friendship, bound by their desire to break the taboos that divide them.
Written by Anjali Tiwari, the story is narrated by 14-year-old Laksh-Lakshmi and is an absorbing story about friendship and prejudice that evokes a vanished world still impacting on events and attitudes today. Richly coloured illustrations by Danica Da Silva Pereira bring Laksh-Lakshmi’s world to life. For young readers age 11 and up. The book is part of Pop Up Projects’ 10 Stories to Make a Difference collection. The collection features a mix of well-known and emerging writers and illustrators, giving a platform to untold stories and diverse new voices. This edition is a beautiful clothbound hardback.
