Synopsis

Syd the squirrel lives in a nest in the big oak tree at the bottom of Mr. and Mrs. Smith's garden. The saying is that we all have a book in us. As a retired criminal defence lawyer, it may be thought that John Smitheman's book would be about stories from police station cells, prison visits and court rooms. But instead it is about the activities of a squirrel in his back garden. Isn't life strange? John is married and lives with his wife in the West Midlands. Their two children flew the nest long ago and their granddaughter Grace, to whom the book is dedicated, makes a cameo appearance in the story. Indeed, it may be said she saves the day.
