The Father, however, is played by a different actor - male or female - at each performance. They walk on stage having neither seen nor read a word of the play they're in...until they're in it. This is a breath-taking projection of a performance, given from one actor to another, from a hypnotist to their subject, from an audience to a person. An Oak Tree is a bold and absurdly comic play about loss, suggestion and the power of the mind. An Oak Tree premiered at the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh in August 2005.

Crouch's first play, My Arm, opened at the Traverse Theatre in 2003. It has run in London and New York and continues to tour internationally. An Oak Tree opened at the Traverse Theatre in 2005 and won an OBIE for its Off-Broadway run in 2007. It requires a second different actor each time it is performed. ENGLAND, a play written to be performed in art galleries, was commissioned by the Traverse Theatre and won a Fringe First, a Total Theatre Award and a Herald Archangel in 2007. The Author was commissioned by the Royal Court Theatre, won a Total Theatre award and shared the John Whiting Award in 2010 and has toured in Europe and the US. Crouch has written a body of work for young audiences including Shopping For Shoes (Brian Way Award, 2007) and four pieces inspired by Shakespeare's minor characters, published by Oberon as I, Shakespeare.
