This text brings together a number of articles focusing on post-Audit Commission developments in local authority property management. The book examines the initiatives and strategies local authorities have put in place since the late 1980s, which aim to bring better standards of property management. Adopting the theme "surveying the initiatives and strategies, re-organization and reform", the book examines the development of initiatives in property asset registers, valuation, audit and reviews, and design of computer-based information systems for asset registration, property valuation and performance measurement as strategies for the management of property held by local authorities. Having set out the initiatives and strategies underlying the structure of local authority property management, the book turns attention to the pressure property managers face to further rationalize the service they provide in response to local government re-organization and reform. The book concludes the examination by reflecting on what is understood about local authority property and by setting out a research management agenda aimed at furthering our knowledge of the subject.
