Mexican-born Michael Schmidt grew up with a boundless passion for poetry, and has written extensively on the subject in his books Lives of the Poets and The First Poets. He has a wonderful eye for new talent and runs a successful poetry-publishing house, Carcanet. He has published two Nobel Prize-winning authors and four Pulitzers; and introduced readers to poetry from diverse cultures.
