Synopsis
The Mexican Mama's Kitchen is a celebration of the fascinating and diverse culinary traditions from different Mexican communities as continued by families today. Using a technique of reportage and focusing on the mother of the household, we catch a glimpse of how the old and new worlds meet and marry. Sofia Larrinua-Craxton shares her favourite everyday recipes and those popular for special occasions as they have been passed down through the generations. She records the cooking skills she learnt from her mother and grandmother and divulges family secrets that give certain dishes an extra zest to set them apart. Chapters take the reader through the Mexican day from breakfasts to comida (lunchtime), such as Albondigas (meatballs) and Platanos Machos (fried plantain) all the way through to puddings, drinks and snacks. Festivals of the Mexican calender are also explored, and a special look at grilling is included as barbecues were a regular feature during weekends with the author's uncle at his ranch.

À propos de l'auteur
Sofia Larrinua-Craxton is Mexican in origin and a food lover with years of expertise in the field. Sofia comes from a family of cooks in Mexico and learnt to cook from her mother and grandmother. She has also learnt a lot from travelling, visiting markets, eating at stalls, restaurants and sharing lots of food experiences with friends and family. With a background of over ten years involvement in the food arena, she has acquired a lot of knowledge in this field. Sofia has a degree in food science and has created best-selling recipes for companies such as the New Covent Garden Soup Company in the UK and in the USA, as well as launching concepts such as Bliss Juice Bars in London. More recently, Sofia appeared on BBC Radio 4's the Food Programme. She came to live in England in 1989 after meeting her English husband at the 'Hand of God' football match at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.
