In 1894, a unique set of Welsh slate mining photographs were taken for a Government Commission on the slate industry. It was accompanied by additional photographs commissioned by Lechwedd Slate Mining portraying the dressing of the rock to produce slates. This book reproduces those images together with a short section on slate production today. It vividly shows the dangerous conditions of the mines and how slates were made in Victorian times.
