The religion of the Goddess is enjoying an exuberant revival. Many female authors have written about the various forms such Goddess worship once took, and is again taking today. This book is refreshingly different. Based on the author's own experience of a diverse range of sites of ancient spiritual significance, her work is part celebration, part travelogue and part historical research. It is both a literal and spiritual journey of discovery and rediscovery. The author explores Greek temples, prehistoric caves, stone circles, giant passage mounds and other monuments that remain so mysteriously across the European landscape and elsewhere. Examining each place in turn, she adeptly combines ancient traditions, archaeology, mythology and her own personal experiences to conjure landscapes imprinted with the symbolic form of women. A compelling and joyous work, the book continually stresses the Goddess's power of renewal - and the strength to be drawn from a life-giving, nurturing female deity springing, like Demeter, from the earth itself.
