Synopsis

NOVATECH conferences are one of the most important conference series in the world on innovative technologies in urban drainage. Scientists and technicians meet over three days to share experiences from different continents, to see the most significant advances on this subject and to discover some innovative and original ideas, which are likely to be developed in the coming years.  During NOVATECH '2001, nearly 130 authors presented papers and 430 people from 34 countries took part. From the papers presented, 15 papers have been selected by the international scientific committee to be published in this special issue; the authors have been allowed to enhance their paper to offer more complete information; these papers are representative of the quality and the subject of NOVATECH.  The main topics developed during NOVATECH?2001 were: global strategies of stormwater management; best management practices techniques (source control, detention basin and retention / infiltration ponds); sewer systems and physical processes under wet weather conditions (hydraulic and transport of solids); treatment of urban wet weather effluents; and data acquisition, tools for studies, analysis and real time control management of drainage systems.  These proceedings provide an essential reference for engineers, researchers and planners working on the problems of urban drainage and looking for new solutions.
