Artists, both professional and amateur, have always been fascinated by the magic of printmaking. Until fairly recently, however, it has been largely limited to those fortunate enough to have access to equipment such as printing presses, acid baths and drying racks. Now here is a guide to the art and practice of exhibition-quality printmaking at home, without costly equipment or materials. The author, Melvyn Petterson, is a professional printmaker and tutor, and a full member of the Royal Society of Painters, Etchers and Engravers. He shows us how to achieve repeatable images with a plethora of simple materials, such as inexpensive paper plates for etching and lithography, and demonstrates the possibility of a huge range of fascinating effects and finishes that are not possible through more immediate art techniques. The reader is then introduced to further printmaking techniques, producing professional quality prints using simple and economical home presses. Including a list of the latest range of materials available, this guide is designed to appeal to keen beginners and dedicated printmakers alike.
