When I first heard of Paul Harding's plan to write this book, I welcomed it. In particular, since I know how helpful his books are in both the day-to-day work and the training of new colleagues... All his books have been practical guides making the complicated, simple. He has done the same here. This book not only concentrates on the Credit Derivatives Definitions themselves, it also explains the historical background, the uses of credit derivatives and the risks associated with them. This combined with a step-by-step explanation of the Credit Derivatives Definitions creates a good overview and understanding of the whole topic. I am pretty sure that traders, negotiators and lawyers will find this book very helpful. Paul Harding, a graduate of the University of London, has worked in several UK and foreign banks in London, in credit, marketing and documentation roles. Since 1990 he has been involved with derivatives documentation. He was a well-known negotiator in the City of London with Barclays Capital Securities Limited and Hill Samuel Bank Limited, where he was head of Treasury Documentation. In February 1997 he founded Derivatives Documentation Limited, a derivatives consultancy and project management company, based in the City of London, and providing negotiation, recruitment and in-house training services in derivatives documentation (website: www.derivsdocu.com). Its clients include many of the world s leading banks. In November 2001 Paul s book Mastering the ISDA Master Agreement was published by Financial Times Prentice Hall. This was followed by Mastering Collateral Management and Documentation, written in conjunction with Christian Johnson, which was published by Financial Times Prentice Hall in November 2002. Paul then completed a book covering the 2002 ISDA Master Agreement, which was published on 1 December 2003. He is currently working on a book on repo master agreements, also forthcoming from Euromoney Books, again in conjunction with Christian Johnson.
