Présentation de l'éditeur

A tempestuous wartime romance between Rob, a navy medic, and Helen, an ATS girl stationed in London, is interrupted when he is sent to HMS Fury, a destroyer. During Russian convoy duty, Rob is not only faced with a series of emergencies that tax his medical skills, but also sub zero temperatures and constant attacks by the enemy. After taking part in The Battle of North Cape and the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst, Fury returns home. The two lovers meet again but as D-Day approaches Fury sails and to Rob's dismay, letters from Helen stop arriving. After D-Day, Fury is badly damaged in the most ferocious storm seen in the English Channel for twenty years. Some weeks later, still without news, Rob finally returns home desperate to find Helen. Using official reports from Kew Gardens and personal accounts, this novel is meticulously researched and is based on fact. Many of the men named are still alive. Some characters are fictitious but the actions are real. This is a gripping tale which the reader will want to finish. Tom Lightburn paints a clear picture of what life was like for those involved in the war, whether on active service or just keeping the home fires burning.
