One of the leading figures in nineteenth-century American literature, Henry James (1843-1916) was a novelist, playwright and literary critic who settled in England. His most famous works include 'The Portrait of a Lady' (1881), The 'Turn of the Screw' (1898) and 'The Golden Bowl' (1904).
