Dr Andy Mantell joined the University of Chichester as a senior lecturer in 2005. He qualified in social work in 1991 at the University of Edinburgh. Since qualifying he has developed experience in child protection, and as a disability, mental health and hospital social worker. He has worked in both the state and independent sector. His research interests include: safeguarding adults, disability, mental health and carers. Dr Terry Scragg is a visiting fellow in the School of Social Studies and was previously Principal Lecturer in Management responsible for postgraduate programmes for health and social care managers. He is a qualified social worker and prior to working in higher education held practitioner and managerial roles in social services departments.

In the second section, the focus shifts to good practice in empowering vulnerable adults. The final section focuses on developing effective professional and inter-professional practice.
