Synopsis

As the interest in decorative sewing, fibre arts and wearable art continues to grow, leading textile designers and teachers like Elli Woodsford are studying with master garment and costume design experts in London to expand and hone their skills. She shares the result of her studies and fibre art creations in this new book. "Machine Embroidery and Textile Decoration" covers a range of machine embroidery and textile decoration techniques, and shows machine embroiderers and those with an interest in fashion and accessories how to apply exciting and innovative techniques to their work. Each chapter focuses on a particular machine embroidery or textile decoration technique, with ideas of how to apply that technique to various items such as jackets, bags, shoes, hats, corsets and jewellery, and includes patterns and templates for each project. Anyone with a basic sewing machine and an enthusiasm to try something new can create the clothing and accessories shown in this book. Readers are encouraged to develop their skills as they work the projects and are invited to experiment. Design and colour principles are applied to all projects, giving readers an opportunity to produce work that is both contemporary and timeless.
