Synopsis
The Highland House Transformed examines the domestic architecture of the Scottish Highlands, exploring the distinct character of the houses and villages of the Highlands, their architectural sameness, and how they relate to the history of the region. In the Highlands and Islands the construction of hundreds of new farmhouses, cottages and planned villages through the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries was a key element in a revolutionary process of agricultural improvement that permanently transformed the landscape. This book discovers these changes that affected the Highlands and Islands forever.

À propos de l?auteur
Daniel Maudlin graduated with an MA and PhD in Art History from the University of St Andrews. He was an Inspector of Historic Buildings for Historic Scotland from 2000 to 2002 and is currently a lecturer in Architectural History and Theory at the School of Architecture and Design, University of Plymouth.
