Left for dead... When gambler Smoke Cavindish is attacked and robbed of his poker winnings, his assailants leave him to die in the desert. In the midst of trouble, Cavindish meets the beautiful Trixie Lee. But things take a turn for the worse when he clashes with Tarleton and quickly finds himself gambling for the highest stakes of all – his life and that of the woman he loves.
Does he save his own neck and go back to his lone wanderings?
Or does he stand by the only people who have ever accepted him?

John Russell Fearn (1908-1960) is well remembered as almost single-handedly driving the post-World War II boom in British publishing with a flood of science fiction, detective stories, and westerns. His writing appeared under various pseudonyms and has been translated into many languages around the world. His other western adventures include Torando Trail, Skeleton Pass, Deadman’s Bend, The Wreckers and Firewater.
