Présentation de l'éditeur

Concrete is an elegantly written, stimulating collection of nine short stories and novellas, from nine different narrators. Journalist, and debut author, Mike Driver writes incisively about injustice and the dilemmas faced by those who challenge and try to defeat it. In the opening story, a young homeless woman protests against the imprisonment of an African poet and finds herself heir to one of his most precious poems. In the longest piece the brilliant, multi-layered novella Betrayal a union activist victimised as a youth reflects on his life in which political commitment and emotional fulfilment have only rarely been in accord. The fraught interaction between love and the thirst for a better future, between the personal and the political and between sexual and revolutionary ardour is the leading theme in this extraordinary, beautifully written collection.
