Présentation de l'éditeur

Derek James's collection of inspirational talks is an invaluable asset for any member of staff faced with the daunting prospect of addressing an assembly to teenagers. Purposely brief, the talks are nevertheless thought-provoking and motivating, whether the content is purely moral or religious. The stories within them are drawn from different cultures and religions, history and the Bible, and James underlines the focus with relevant quotations to spark the imagination and provoke discussion. Derek James does not pretend to be an expert on religion or to have studied theology, but his heartfelt talks put across his own view on everything from courage to miracles, from sport to Holy Communion. They are intended to make today's teenagers reflect on a wide range of moral and religious issues and, hopefully, to take at least some of the messages away from the assembly hall to be put into practice. This collection is the first time Derek James has written down his thoughts. His assemblies were always rehearsed and spoken off pat, thereby conveying his sincerity. The talks are not intended to be recited word for word, but to provide teachers with ideas and topics around which to build their own assemblies - assemblies that will not leave their young audience bored, but with the desire to explore the subjects further.
