'This enchanting book of both old and new faery tales delivers young minds into a world where history, literature and imagination intersect. Newey's illustrations are stunning in their simple creativity, and the text is perfect for silent readers. A welcome gift' --The Good Book Guide
'This book will take children beyond a fascination with all things glittery and gauzy into the realm of myths that deal with profound human emotions... The poems that intersperse the stories are full of vivid language that will paint pictures in the heads of sleepy children.' --The Sunday Times
'The four traditional tales in A Child's Book of Faeries are robust and fun, and are interleaved with a few 19th century poems and Batt's own folklore. Gail Newey's illustrations surround and decorate each page's framed text, vivid and inviting examples of her 'passion for colour' --Books for Keeps
Tanya Batt, is a self-confessed story-o-phile and frock-o-holic. Traveling the world as a storyteller, arts educator and writer she visits places both on and off maps. Her work is characterized by lively interaction and her use of music, movement and sumptuous frocks. She says, 'stories are her habit.' Tanya is based on the enchanted island of Waiheke Island, Aotearoa, New Zealand, where she is the director of the Once Upon an Island Storytelling Festival and Center. Gail Newey gained her degree in illustration from Manchester Metropolitan University. She went on to work for Bilston and Battersea Enamels, painting limited-edition 17th-century-style enamel boxes. In 1997 she decided to devote her time to illustrating children's books. Gail takes her inspiration from the Pre-Raphaelites, in particular Rossetti. She lives in Manchester, England.
