Leaving behind the bright lights, long days and endless frustrations of his career as an acclaimed cameraman in the film industry, Alan Prior decides to return to the West Country fishing village of Seaford, a place that had enchanted him as a young boy on a family holiday. Seaford offers the chance for a new start in a genuinely close-knit little town, far removed from his successful but unrewarding life in London. His goal is to learn the fishing business, starting at the very bottom as a deckhand on a trawler. But he will also need to win the trust and respect of the locals if he is to succeed in carrying out his plan: to own and operate his own trawler out of Seaford harbour and be accepted as a true member of the community. He moved on to British Movietonews and later Satellite, Independent Television stations and the BBC. Desiring his own enterprise with the added chance of amalgamating his skills, he launched a West Country-based news and picture agency, feeding written, photographed and filmed material to television and newspapers. He moved to Asia in 1995 to lecture in the field of mass communication to polytechnics and universities, and to finally write independently. His first novel, The Wand, an occult tale of Britain's most infamous magician, Aleister Crowley, was published in 2008.

John Wanstall has written and photographed for the UK media for more than forty years. Trained as a photojournalist, he worked for the Sunday Express and the Guardian. He moved on to British Movietonews and later Satellite, Independent Television stations and the BBC. Desiring his own enterprise with the added chance of amalgamating his skills, he launched a West Country-based news and picture agency, feeding written, photographed and filmed material to television and newspapers. He moved to Asia in 1995 to lecture in the field of mass communication to polytechnics and universities, and to finally write independently.
