Synopsis

The main aim of Vivace is to build on your knowledge of the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in Italian. You will also: acquire a good understanding of Italian grammar; expand your Italian vocabulary; gain an insight into the cultures of Italy and its regions; discover strategies to make your learning more successful. The second book is divided into five units following on from those in Libro 1: Unit 7: Mens sana in corpore sano - this unit focuses on the topics of health and sport. You will learn how to talk about minor complaints and how to suggest cures and remedies. You will find out about the Italian national health system, alternative medicines and spa treatments in Italy, before turning to the subject of sport in Italy. Unit 8: Il mondo del lavoro - Jobs and employment are at the heart of Italy s political and social debate, and this unit gives you the chance to explore different aspects of working life in Italy. Unit 9: Casa dolce casa - this section explores homes and dwellings in Italy, looking at different aspects of the housing sector, such as buying or renting, houses and flats, social housing and country or city living. Unit 10: Italia di ieri e di oggi - The aim of this unit is to give an introduction to Italy past and present by offering you ideas for discussion. We look at key events in contemporary Italian history and learn about migration, organised crime and the future challenges the country faces. Unit 11: Unita - this unit provides an opportunity for the revision of structures, themes and content of the previous units. At the beginning of each activity there is a list of revision points showing what is contained in the various steps of the activity. There are exercises in each unit and the answers can be found in the Chiave at the end of the book.
