Synopsis
The phenomenon of addiction and how biological, psychological and sociological evidence can be brought to understanding it. Mental health professionals now regard addiction as a mental health disorder in its own right as well as a problem that can affect health in a variety of ways, such as through indirect effects on the user (e.g. heart problems following excessive alcohol use) as well as on other people (e.g. victims of drink driving accidents). The book aims to introduce you to the controversy that surrounds the issue of addiction and how addictions can be classified, as well as to offer some suggestions as to how to find a logical way to interpret the evidence.
