Synopsis
Almost everyone believes they are in control of their own lives. Some of us, after a little contemplation, may be able to see that this cannot be so - yet we are unable to accept that truth. As an explanation for this the book suggests that, although we have been told by a number of the most intelligent people who have ever lived that the concept of Free Will is only an illusion, our reason is clouded by superstition, culture and emotion, human characteristics that have evolved over many thousands of years and which are still evolving. It also points out that those of us who are able to acknowledge this logic find the reality liberating.
