This work addresses topical social issues from a psychological perspective, for example unemployment, child abuse, and AIDS. Each contribution is self-contained, does not presume previous knowledge of the topic, and is suitable for students to use as the basis for a tutorial discussion. Some of the topics considered are humour and its psychological basis in mental health, the social context in which eating disorders can arise, drug and alcohol abuse, the effects of television and advertisements on the sensitivity of human perception and racial prejudice.
