Synopsis
Advancing technology now enables the construction of very high-speed networks suitable for multimedia, high volume and simultaneous applications. In order to handle concurrent information flows, involving voice, data and images, a transfer mode (ATM Asynchronous Transfer Mode) has been developed. ATM combines the advantages of both circuit and packet switching techniques and operates within wide area (Broadband ISDN) and local area networks (ATM LAN).
