Chalcraft is Professor of Classical Sociology at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Derby</st1:placename></st1:place>.<span> </span>He is a graduate of Biblical Studies at <st1:place w:st="on">Sheffield</st1:place> and Sociology at the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype> of <st1:placename w:st="on">Oxford</st1:placename></st1:place>. <span> </span>He edited Social Scientific Biblical Criticism, (<st1:place w:st="on">Sheffield</st1:place>, 1997) and Sectarianism in Early Judaism: Sociological Advances (Equinox, 2007), and is series editor of Rethinking Classical Sociology (Ashgate Publishing). </span></span>
