Synopsis

The main character is a young girl who lives in the City of Hats. Here, all of the people are born with hats that cover their heads and faces. The world inside of their hats is dark, silent, and odorless. She feels trapped underneath her own hat and wants to take it off, but is worried about how society will react… She can’t resist the temptation anymore, and decides to take it off so she can enjoy the world around her. Although people judge her for her actions, she is feels sad for her friends and neighbours who are afraid to experience the world outside of their hats. She comes up with an ingenious solution…

Lateefa Buti is a Kuwaiti author specialised in children’s literature. Her portfolio extends from stand-alone novels, theatrical works, publications in magazines and periodicals, to works in radio and television. She has several independently published works including: The Mermaid and My Country, Ininkayo, in addition to theatrical acts such as Juha’s Gate and Salma the Princess of the Sea. Duha al-Khatib is a Syrian award-winning artist. She is a graduate of Damascus University, and the Adham Ismail Institute for Fine Arts. Duha has participated in many festivals an workshops across the Middle East and Europe promoting art an literature. Nancy Roberts is an award-winning translator of a. number of contemporary Arab novelists into English including Ghada Samman, Ibrahim Nasrallah, Laila Aljohani. and Ahlem Mosteghanemi
