Synopsis
The efficiency of the Hutu killers in the Rwandan genocide of 1994 exceeded that of even the Nazi Holocaust. It happened in front of the world's eyes, every moment broadcast on television - but nothing was done. Among the 800 000 Tutsi killed were Joseph Sebarenzi's parents and seven siblings. God Sleeps in Rwanda follows Sebarenzi's return to Rwanda and his rise to elected speaker of parliament, his attempts to reform the ravaged country, and the assassination plot that, once again, forced him into exile. Today he educates the world about Rwanda, working to prevent these atrocities from ever happening again.

Joseph Sebarenzi served as elected speaker of the Rwandan parliament from 1997 to 2000. In this role, he spoke at the United Nations, the European Union Assembly, the Inter-parliamentary Union in Egypt, and the UN Human Rights Commission in South Africa. He is currently living in Washington, D.C., and campaigns around the world for conflict management through reconciliation and forgiveness.
