This series examines what life was like for people in Britain during World War II. Each title takes a different aspect of civilian life, and looks at its dangers, difficultes and pleasures. Much of the story is told by eye-witness accounts. This title examines what it was like to live through the Blitz, from the early days of carrying gas masks when no gas fell, through the long 57 nights of sheltering from the falling bombs. The eye-witness accounts bring the months alive, describing how it felt to have your home blown up around you, or to see German planes circling over London. As well as covering the bombing raids on cities throughout Britain, the author looks at the Allies raids on Germany and compares the devastation there. The author has written several other historical books for children, including "War at Home", "War in the Far East", and "The First World War 1914-1918" (2 vols).
