Aspiring saint, Margery Kempe, attempts to secure her position and establish her (ultimately unsuccessful) bid for canonisation by writing her life story. The tale of her passionate physical love for Jesus intertwines with that of the narrator?s adoration of his young lover L, until the two plots merge.

Robert Gluck is the author of Elements of a Coffee Service and Denny Smith, as well as the novels Jack the Modernist and Margery Kempe for Serpent's Tail. He also writes poetry, art criticism and teaches creative writing at San Francisco State University.
