Synopsis

Teaching children to develop as language users is one of the most important tasks of the primary teacher, since it is through the use of language skills that children gain access to and communicate thoughts and ideas across the curriculum. The first edition was adjudged by the Teacher Training Agency to meet the subject knowledge requirements and is included in their catalogue of materials so approved. The second edition has been expanded to include self-assessment activities to enable readers to audit their knowledge against these requirements. It also reflects fully the changes in the primary English National Curriculum 2000.
