Synopsis
This is a history of one of the most famous regiments in the British Army, written with the full co-operation of the Regiment. Established in 1688 The Green Howards created the foundation for a tradition lasting 300 years for fine service to the nation. This narrative charts their history and so reflects that of the Army in all its greatest battles: French wars to 1797, Napoleonic era, Crimea, First and Second World Wars and on to Suez and Malaya and represents an enviable military record. This contains the whole story from raising to present day with new research to reveal fresh insights into their history, and in particular the little covered interwar and post 1945 decades.

The unclipped dust wrapper is also in mint condition. The Green Howards regiment had two regular battalions, the 1st and 2nd. While the 1st Bn has remained active throughout the regiment's history, the 2nd Bn has been raised and then placed in a state of 'suspended animation' on a number of occasions, the last time being in 1956. Between 1907 and 2006, the regiment also contained a number of reserve battalions or companies which were part of the army's volunteer reserve force - the collective name of which has changed several times over the years (currently the Army Reserve) During the First World War there were 24 battalions, with 12 in World war Two.
