Making lists of your favourite movies is a popular party game because everyone has an opinion. In Film: The Critics' Choice, ten leading film critics select 15 key movies from a specific genre - from silent movies to New Wave to animation. After an introductory overview of the genre, the critic describes each film in an essay covering who made it and why, its artistic features and technical interest, the broader context in which it was made, and his or her own reasons for choosing it. The result is an enormously varied selection: old favourites such as King Kong and The Hustler are found alongside genuine rarities.
