Synopsis

Conor McPherson is one of the most lauded playwrights of his generation. This second volume of his plays includes the hugely acclaimed ghost story, The Weir. One of the most successful plays of recent years, it ran for two years in the West End and transferred to Broadway and toured the UK: In a bar in a remote part of Ireland, the local lads are swapping spooky stories to impress a young woman from Dublin newly moved into the area but she has a story of her own...'A spellbinder that transfixes you...No praise in fact is too high' Guardian.

Dublin Carol is McPherson's subtle and haunting reworking of the Dickens' classic. On Christmas Eve, an undertaker is visited by his estranged daughter who wants him to face up to the past. 'McPherson writes like a dream...The play works an ingenious spell' Daily Mail.

Port Authority tells the story of three interwoven lives and brilliantly showcases McPherson's talent for dramatic monologue. A boy leaves home for the first time; a man starts a job for which he is unqualified; a pensioner is sent a mysterious package. The result is 'overwhelmingly poignant...desolate, searing and eloquent' Evening Standard.

Finally, in Come On Over, a Jesuit priest, sent to investigate a 'miracle' in his home town, re-encounters the woman who loved him thirty years before. This short piece showcases all the trademark skill - rich, vivid writing, deeply felt humour and emotion and a haunting sense of the past - that defines 'the finest playwright of his generation.' Daily Telegraph.
