Synopsis

Gathering together a formidable collection of writings by both artists and writers, this issue explores the position of painting today. Painting has had to reaffirm itself in an age where different media and approaches proliferate, where the possibilities of communication in the fields of artificial intelligence and infinite. Specific painters have been chosen whose work will endure or continue to prove vital for the immediate future of painting and its development as a medium both materially and conceptually. Including features on more historical figures such as Willem de Kooning, Philip Guston and Joan Mitchell, established contemporary painters such as Chuck Close, Sigmar Poke and Robert Ryman as well as younger contemporary artists such as Helmut Dorner, Peter Halley, Imi Knoebel, Juan Usle and Jonathan Lasker the issue provides a perceptive framework to some of the best work being carried out today.
