Alison Smith is Director of Collections and Research at the Wallace Collection, London, and former Chief Curator at the National Portrait Gallery, London. Previously published works include: Charles III: The Making of a King (National Portrait Gallery, 2023), Edward Burne-Jones (Tate Publishing, 2018), and Reflections: Van Eyck and the Pre-Raphaelites (Yale University Press, 2017).

Knut Ljøgodt, is Founding Director at The Nordic Institute, Norway. Previously published works include: Peder Balke: Sublime North.
