Synopsis

WR 'Bill' Mitchell joined The Dalesman magazine in 1949 and started a journalistic career inspired by Harry Scott's adage 'put people before things'. Bill took over as editor from Scott in 1968, a position he held for eighteen years. As well as his work for the popular magazine, Bill had a prodigious output which extended across more than two hundred books, innumerable articles and countless lectures. His many interviews with Dales people reflect a bygone age and remain for posterity in the WR Mitchell Archive. He became an expert on many topics, but Bill Mitchell's Yorkshire concentrates on the county of his birth, across which he travelled many times gathering material. Bill was a proud Yorkshireman through to his death in 2015. His son David has compiled a selection of his father's life's work from around the Broad Acres, including some previously unpublished material, in this volume.
