Synopsis
This is the second volume in a series of selections of natural history prints from around the world, featuring rare plates which illustrate fish in their remarkable diversity of size, shape and colour. It includes a substantial collection of pictures from books of coloured plates of fish published between 1791 and 1910, many of them now much sought-after collectors' items. Some of the illustrations are fanciful and almost comically exotic and others are notable for their scientific accuracy and meticulous observation. The author has written many books and articles, both scientific and popular, on natural history topics.
