Synopsis

This series aims to keep professionals at the cutting edge of issues and trends in library and information management worldwide. The theme for the 2002-3 edition of the yearbook is "the digital factor", and is intended to complement the earlier themes of collection management (2000) and information services in an electronic environment (2001). The focus is broad, ranging from organizational to technical issues, from collection management to reader services. Part One consists of an overview chapter that surveys the digital scene as it is evolving at the beginning of the 21st century, and where it is likely to go in the first decade of the century. In Part Two individual chapters look at specific topics within the following headings: institutions and organizations; books, readers and reader services; collection management issues; digital preservation and archives; technical issues; and legal concerns.
