Présentation de l'éditeur

Jesus of Nazareth is a life of Jesus researched and written with the central purpose of discovering the true kind and content of the faith for which he lived and died, and which has come down to us as the Christian faith by which so many still profess to live. A second and equally important purpose in this research and writing is to estimate just how loyal, and how disloyal the main churches that claim his name have been over almost two thousand years. The findings are radical, in the best sense of the word, going back to the roots to revive the full and true vision of the faith of the Nazarene in churches that badly need reform at the present time if they are not to continue to haemhorhage even more members. 'This is a radical ... treatment, that will inspire and challenge its intended readership. Yet, Mackey's Jesus, shorn of later theological trappings, is no liberal but a prophet and son of God who lived and died to restore the true reign of God in the world.' Seán Freyne, former Professor of Theology, TCD 'His invocation of 'the idiom of imagination' ... enables him ... to open up the biblical accounts of Jesus to intellectual and 'saving' truths and practices too frequently neglected. In method and substance, this study of Jesus is a truly remarkable achievement by the author and an equally remarkable source of nourishment and delight for the reader.' Enda McDonagh, Professor Emeritus of Moral Theology, St Patrick's College, Maynooth. 'This is a book of powerful honesty and formidable scholarship, a magnificent conclusion to a life devoted to the immeasurable possibilities of hope still residing in that most enigmatic of historical figures: Jesus of Nazareth.
