Kevin Rafferty was very far seeing. He took a passionate interest in church developments after the Second Vatican Council, especially in their implications for European evangelisation. He would deeply identify with the vision of Isaiah: No need to recall the past … I am doing a new deed … Yes, I am making a road in the wilderness … (Is. 43: 18-19) Kevin saw the direction of that new road in a way that few others did. His various appointments, and perhaps particularly his time as President of All Hallows, provided him with an opportunity to make his own distinctive contribution to the building of that road. We are indeed fortunate that he has left us this brief, but inspiring record of his efforts in his own characteristically modest words.
