Synopsis

Pocket-sized and in full colour, this new edition covering southern, Greek Cyprus, takes into account the many changes on the island in the past few years. The touring map and town plans (Lefkosia, Larnaka, Lemesos, Pafos and Protaras/Ayia Napa) have been redrawn to show the 6 current access points to North Cyprus, as well as the many new roads. The walking maps have also been redrawn (in many cases based on GPS survey) and include the new E4 walking route across the island. There are 7 car tours, plus a 4WD route. But the major part of the book is devoted to 30 main walks (with 1:50,000 topo maps). Each walk has at least one alternative version, and there are plenty of picnic suggestions (short walks suitable for those with young children or in hot weather). An on-line update service keeps readers abreast of all route changes since publication, and GPS tracks can be downloaded for some of the walks. For northern, Turkish Cyprus see Sunflower's "Walk & Eat North Cyprus" with 11 walks and four excursions.

Présentation de l'éditeur

Walking in Cyprus or exploring Cyprus by car is an experience to treasure for a lifetime - or, as the Cypriots put it, 'Once been, never forgotten'. You can stroll for miles along the southeast coast or hike through the woods in the famous Troodos Mountains (stopping for lunch at one of the trout farms).

But in recent years most walkers are exploring the 'far west' - the Akamas Peninsula, now a nature reserve, where the Tourism Organisation has established some fine nature trails. (In all, there are 52 nature trails on the island, some short and easy, others very demanding.)

This pocket-sized guide describes car tours, picnic places and walks all round the island. There is a fold-out touring map for motorists, which also highlights the various walking areas. For those without a car, there are timetables for local transport.

6 car tours (and accompanying touring map), 45 long and short walks (each illustrated with 1:50,000 topo map), 15 picnic suggestions. Plans of Lefkosia, Pafos, Larnaka, Lemesos, Agia Napa. Free online update service with specific route change information on the publisher's website, maintained daily.

The 'Landscapes' series, with 50 destinations, has been dubbed 'the blue Bibles' by the Sunday Times and led to Sunflower being one of only four publishers (from a field of 18) chosen as a Which? Recommended Provider of Guidebooks.

I like the way the walks link in with the car tours. The different levels of difficulty and alternative suggestions for walks made this a very flexible book to use and an excellent guide for exploring Cyprus --(Roma, Amazon)

Having always been a reader of Lonely Planet and Rough Guides I was curious to see how the Sunflower guides compared in terms of information and ease of reading. Very pleased to find a travel guide packed with useful information backed up by clear and easy to understand mapping, something that I have felt lacking in the other travel guides mentioned. It is clear that the authors have a detailed first hand knowledge of the locations they are visiting and this comes across throughout the book. --(AC, Amazon)
