BRIAN MCLEAN is a British translator and journalist. He spent periods in Japan and Austria before settling in Hungary in 1977. He is the author of Escape Routes: Ten Excursions from Budapest. He has translated about fifty, mainly scholarly, books, including Gabriella Balla s Herend (an illustrated history of the porcelain factory), Political Economy of Socialism by János Kornai, and The Holy Crown of Hungary by Endre Tóth and Károly Szelényi.
