A popular re-print, with a new chapter about the Al Yamamah affair, which is the FIRST direct account of how the contract was obtained.

Admiral Sir Raymond Derek Lygo, KCB (15 March 1924 - 7 March 2012) was a Royal Navy officer who went on to be Vice Chief of the Naval Staff. Educated at Ilford County High School and Clark's College, Bromley, Lygo joined the Royal Navy at HMS St.Vincent (Fleet Air Arm basic training establishment in Gosport, Hampshire)in 1942 during World War II. He was appointed the commanding officer of the frigate Lowestoft in 1961, the frigate Juno in 1967 and the aircraft carrier Ark Royal in 1969. While in command of the latter in 1971, the Ark Royal collided with a Soviet cruiser that was shadowing her during an exercise in the Mediterranean. Damage to both vessels was slight, though two Soviet crewmen went missing. Lygo was cleared of any responsibility in the subsequent inquiry. He was next appointed Director-General, Naval Manpower and Training from February 1974 to June 1975. He went on to be Vice Chief of the Naval Staff in 1975 and retired in 1978. This copy is from the library of Admiral Sir Brian Thomas Brown KCB CBE (born 31 August 1934) is a senior Royal Navy officer from 1852 to 1991 who went on to be Second Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Personnel. International postal rates are calculated on a book weighing 1 Kilo, in cases where the book weighs more than 1 Kilo increased postal rates will be quoted, where the book weighs less then postage will be reduced accordingly. Admiral Sir Raymond Lygo was one of the very few members of the Fleet Air Arm who joined as a Naval Airman Second Class and retired as an Admiral and the deputy to the Chief of the Defence Staff, before stepping neatly sideways into a senior role at British Aerospace. It is an excellent read. What I especially liked was the way that he kept relating his naval experience to his commercial experience and vice-versa. It was good to read also how he contrasted the political machinations of high office during the Westlands affair, which I would suggest could be described as almost Machiavellian, to the much more honest leadership that he experienced (and exhibited) in his Naval career. Hardcover. Etat : Very Good. Etat de la jaquette : Very Good. 1st Edition. On retirement from the Navy, industry beckoned in the shape of British Aerospace which, as chief executive and managing director, he nursed it through the traumatic experience of being the first nationalized company to be privatized. This is a fascinating biography of a boy who left school at 14 and ended up an admiral and chief executive of one of Britain's biggest companies. There is light bumping to the corners but is otherwise a tight clean copy. PLEASE NOTE; International economy shipping is by sea and may take upto 90 days to arrive. N° de réf. du vendeur 02969
